Protec Wins National Recycling Award for Closed Loop Re-manufacturing Scheme

Protec International has been honoured at the prestigious National Recycling Awards 2019, named as the winners in the category: Recycling Excellence – Large Organisations.

National recycling Awards Winners

Collaboration across the construction supply chain

The award recognised the unique collaborative approach to waste management on the Principal Tower project in London between main contractor Multiplex Construction Europe, subcontractor Lindner Facades, and Temporary Protection products manufacturer Protec International Ltd.

Circular Closed Loop Approach

Protec developed its unique ClosedLoop Re-manufacturing Scheme to enable construction companies like Multiplex and Lindner to responsibly remove and recycle Proplex plastic temporary protection sheets from construction sites. On the Principal Tower project, over 7 tonnes of used product was successfully collected and re-manufactured into new post-consumer sheeting.

 ClosedLoop Re-manufacturing Scheme

As a result, all three companies have endorsed the use of circular closed loop recycling on their future projects. Protec is now supporting more than 40 construction projects to implement closed loop recycling nationally.

Announcing the award winners, the judges commented glowingly on the immediate and long-term benefits of collaboration by supply chain partners:

“This is a great project to shine a light on for others in the sector. It demonstrates how a collaborative approach to a specific problem has led to a closed loop solution that can be rolled out and implemented more widely.”

Lasting benefits

In addition to reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste on the Principal Tower project, this initiative also helped to educate the workforce across the supply chain on the importance of waste reduction and recycling and the value of closed loop systems.

For Protec, the ClosedLoop Re-manufacturing Scheme forms the central core of our company-wide sustainability commitment, which also includes promoting the use of lightweight, durable materials on a multi-use basis and developing modern, efficient production methods that contribute to significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
