Carpet Protection Film Used For “Paddle Round The Pier” Festival

Protec’s temporary protection materials often find their way into a range of festival applications, from temporary event flooring to polythene used for protecting event seating to preventing slips and trips behind bars. Protec even get asked to provide branded festival fence screening to promote upcoming events. However, this enquiry resulted in Rakuten Marketing quite literally “pushing the boat out!”.

Paddle Round the Pier is the world’s biggest free beach water sports festival. The festival takes place both in the water and on the beach front at Brighton. Teams and individuals enter events such as sandcastle competitions, beach fitness challenges and swim races to raise money for charities.

One of the events lets contestants test their imaginations as they take to the ocean to “Paddle Something Unusual”. Rakuten Marketing entered this competition with a home-built raft constructed of wood and monopoly money. However, the monopoly money needed protecting on the water to prevent it from being ruined.

Rakuten Marketing contacted Protec International Ltd and asked us to source a material which would be waterproof and self adhesive.  Protec International Ltd recommended using Carpet Protection Film, as it uses a low tack adhesive which means that the film was easy to handle and to fix into place.

Richard Brooks, Client Manager at Rakuten Marketing said: “As it turns out, the carpet protection film pretty much held the raft together when out on the high seas, it's good stuff!”
