The recent high winds and storms that have affected almost every corner of the UK has brought to light the issues that face many construction sites when the weather takes a turn for the worse. High winds, in addition to the potential structural damage they can cause, can be particularly problematical with most temporary protection materials in that the usually light protection if not secured properly is likely to be blown around site and thus failing to protect the areas that it is intended to.

The contribution of Temporary Protection toward Health & Safety on Site
The progression of Health & Safety practices in recent years has seen a reduction in accidents and mortalities on construction sites. Through increased awareness and improved working practices the standard of health and safety has improved across most aspects of construction work in areas such as personnel, PPE, tools and equipment.
At Protec we feel that the increased use of temporary protection materials has also contributed to safer and healthier working environments through protection products that raise awareness, protect hazards and act as alternatives to some traditional protection that may inadvertently prove dangerous.
One of the main areas that protection materials have contributed toward health and safety is through the development of tested and certificated LPS1207 Flame Retardant products through the Joint Code of Practice under the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB).

What is the Joint Code of Practice and how does it relate to Temporary Protection Materials?
We are often asked this very question, and for those that have had the time or need to ask, hopefully we have been able to provide all the necessary information. In some cases we have even provided the necessary support where companies have decided to change their working procedures and have adopted a “fully LPCB flame retardant policy” when it comes to using Temporary Protection Materials.

Protec does CSI!
We recently had some interest in our polythene range of products for the use of forensic investigations.
We supply our screening materials extensively for the medical sector but this is the first time we have been approached for the use of our materials in the forensic field.
Wherever investigative work needs to be done, there will always be potential dangers – wet floors, areas where dust may travel and in fact sensitive areas only accessible for dedicated staff, for instance. It’s up to you to ensure these areas are clearly highlighted. And there’s no faster, easier way to do that than with the ZipWall Caution Tape Reel™.
The ZipWall poles and fixing clips provide convenient, easily positioned location points for the caution tape, removing any need for fastening to other structures. As an additional service, we can also supply custom-printed caution tape bearing your corporate brand or a specific safety message.
It would be a crime not to safeguard areas with sensitive access – so why not speak to our highly experienced technical team on 0800 834 704 to find out how Zipwall Caution Tape Reel can help on your project.

Protec Supplies Proplex FR Rolls to Jamaica
Protec are proud to announce that they have supplied a quantity of Flame Retardant Proplex Rolls to Kier Construction which are destined to be used on a construction site in Jamaica.
The temporary protection is mainly being used as floor protection on the Kier project in Kingston where they are building a new head quarters for the mobile phone giant Digicel.

Previous Protec blogs have already covered winter weather and snow but only in general detail, in light of increasing snow risk and plunging temperatures it may be of value to consider some specific protection solutions against snow.
