ZipWall Temporary ScreeningGuide To Using Temporary Protection for DIY Projects

In recent years the scale of DIY projects has increased on every level from small projects in the home to larger self build initiatives and whilst the complexity of projects has changed with more advanced tools, materials and working practices many house holders are now following the example of contractors by also investing in temporary protection.

Traditionally Protec have catered specifically to trade contractors and the range of products supplied has reflected this with large format protection rolls, own branding and an extensive range of protection products for a multitude of applications. From these origins products have been created to cater for various bespoke site requirements and it is through this that many house holders have found their way to Protec whether through seeing the Protec branding on protection materials used in their home by contractors or through a visit to the Protec website.

Whether you are a builder and need to protect your customer’s carpets while on a job, doing some decorating in the living room and worried about spilt paint, want to protect your car’s floor when taking your dog for a particularly muddy walk or just having a party and don’t want any spilt wine to make a mess of your dining room, carpet protector from Protec can save you loads of time and money in cleaning by safeguarding your carpets before any damage comes to them. We sell thousands of square meters of carpet protection every week so our easily applied and reverse wound self adhesive carpet protector is certainly tried and tested.

Take a look at our carpet protection micro-site here, or call our enquiries team on 0800 834 704 if you need any advice in protecting your home with any temporary protection.

Protec’s carpet protection is perfect for when you are decorating hallways, stairs and rooms of all sizes.

Recently I was undertaking some redecoration work in the main hallway of my house and one of the main jobs was stripping the existing wallpaper for a new coat of paint. I have done some work like this before and the resulting mess from the wallpaper can be a big hassle when clearing up, it doesn’t tend to get picked up by hoovers or simply clogs it so I ended up having to use a dustpan and brush which not only took ages but also left the carpet in a pretty dire state.

This time around I used some of our self adhesive carpet protector on the carpet before I started any work. As seen below it quickly started to get very messy. Once the stripping of the wallpaper was complete quite a large amount had gathered on the floor and where previously a failed hoover attempt and subsequent dust pan and brush would have started I simply had to roll up the film and throw it away!

If you’re doing any redecorating work where any sort of mess like the wallpaper strippings below could cause any damage or long and costly cleaning time or charges I would highly recommend using some self adhesive carpet protector. Make sure it’s reverse wound so you can easily lay it down and remember not leave it in place for longer than 4 weeks. Usage: Carpet Protector – 17 Year olds birthday party

Opinion: ‘This product saved our new carpets from my daughter’s 17th birthday party (over 38 people in our 4 bed house). This is a fabulous product and I would recommend it to anyone, be aware though that you need more than you think – the 25 metre roll only just covered two rooms (not that big) luckily we ordered 2 rolls – next time I’d buy the 100m roll to ensure I had enough for more carpets. Great carpet protection product.’

PromeshWe’re often asked How do I protect carpets during redecoration?”

There are many dangers of redecorating with a carpet fitted, including spilled paint, scuff marks and tears from moving furniture, heavy foot traffic grinding dirt into it, and so on. Traditionally, short of removing the carpet, many people turn to their old dust sheets stashed in the garage, made of conventional fabric which should take most of the damage instead.
