Coverguard - Heavy Duty, Flame Retardant Floor Protection

Ensuring your floor does not get damaged during a construction or renovation project is essential. Effective use of floor coverings is the best way to ensure that the end result is flawless. However, choosing the wrong floor protector can be worse than not using one at all.

At Protec, we can advise the best floor protectors based on your project’s specific demands. These five considerations are aimed at helping you to get the best Temporary Floor Protection:

1)    Floor Type:

Every floor has different properties and therefore may require a different type of protection. For example, it is highly recommended to use breathable floor protection on newly laid wooden floors as they require permeable membranes for curing. Breathershield was designed specifically for wooden floors to allow them to breathe whilst protecting from scratches, scuffs and stains.

2)     Exposure:

The duration your floor protection will be required, any elements it may be exposed to and the overall footfall/volume of traffic will determine how durable you need the floor protector to be. For example, it is not recommended to use a protection film for projects when light/medium wheeled traffic (cherry pickers, scissor lifts etc) will be in operation. Coverguard is one of our most durable floor protectors which makes it perfect for more demanding, long-running projects.

3)    Flame Retardant:

Every year there are numerous major fires on construction sites and in buildings undergoing refurbishment. The Fire Protection Association’s Joint Code of Practice requires that all Temporary Protection Materials used in construction and refurbishment projects must be Flame Retardant and conform to the requirements of the Loss Prevention Standard LPS 1207, LPS 1215 or Certifire. They must also have the relevant LPCB or Certifire marking and certificate number printed on the material.Choose a Flame Retardant floor protector which is Certifire approved.

4)    Ease of Application & Removal:

Make sure you read the product reviews. Cheap floor protectors can be difficult to apply or leave a tacky residue when removed, which can mean you end up spending more time cleaning up afterwards, or even damage the floor.

5)    Prevent Slips and Trips:

Using a good quality self-adhesive floor protector is the safest way to prevent from slips and trips which you may get by using dust sheets. Using the correct floor protection can protect your staff, customers and the flooring from any damage and injuries.

by Peter Williams, 15 Dec 2011

Usage: Protecting domestic carpets during decorating operations. Providing a medium term (max 4 weeks) covering for walked areas (hallways and adjacent to external entry doors) against dirty footwear during interior building work.

Opinion: A very easy to use product that provided comprehensive protection to domestic carpets during decorating and building operations. Significally, tradesmen who had not encountered such a product on other building jobs were very impressed by the convenience and efficiency

Flame Retardant Floor Protection for Carpets

Usage: To protect office carpets during redecorations

Opinion: Having used many types of carpet protectors over the years, we were keen to try this one. So easy to use, rolls out better than other brands, a walk in the park compared to some. Being Flame Retardant too was another big plus. Removed very easily with no residue left. A must if you need to protect carpets.

Top Tips for Decorators

Decorating either your own or someone else’s house? These four quick and easy tips are ideal for making you decorate like a professional decorator or if you are a professional, to amaze your customers with your tips and tricks.

1) Protecting Doors While Painting Frames

door protection

Doorframes often get discoloured and need repainting. However, a common issue when re-painting a doorframe is that it is difficult to avoid not painting on the door itself. Whilst other smaller items can simply be taped over, taping a whole door is a waste of tape. Door Sleeves slide over doors and protects from various damage such as paint but we’ve found it is also great for protecting from scratches when moving furniture through doorways.

2) Protect carpets from paint!carpet protection

Whether you will be painting a room with hard wooden flooring or decorating a living room with a carpet, not taking precautionary care when you are decorating can lead to expensive repairs from either paint accidents or even from wallpaper glue spilling. Getting these products out of carpets, vinyl flooring and wooden floors can be a nightmare. Dust sheets or newspaper can sometimes suffice but the former can often be a trip hazard while the latter can actually end up making more mess than if not used! Protec stock various floor protection whether it’s for wood or carpets that is easy to apply, quick, efficient and leaves your floors free from paint spills and worse!

3) Low-Tack Tape For Taping Off Fixtures

Adhesive tape for finished surfacesTape is a great solution for covering specific areas or fixings such as skirting boards, shelves which are attached to the walls, protecting around plug sockets and around radiators, so you don’t have to worry about having too much of a steady hand when you are painting right to the edge. Although adhesive masking tapes are useful when decorating, people don’t choose tapes carefully. Choosing a Low tack tape is the best solution to ensure that your finished result doesn’t have flakes of paint missing! Protec’s Ultra Low Tack Tape comes in a 100m roll, so you can use it again and again. Order today before 5pm and recieve tomorrow.

4) Stay Clean!

shoe coveringsWhile working with paint or other potentially messy substances then it is easy for the mess to spread. This means any dirt accumulated won’t be spread from room to room and contains the mess!
