The doors and doorways on construction sites may be considered to be one of the most at risk areas of damage on a construction site after the floors. Doorways and doors are potentially at risk from site traffic passing in and out of them all day for the duration of a project and it is for this reason that Protec have developed and can supply a combination of protection products to firstly raise awareness and secondly cushion any impact that may be encountered.
Some of the most commons risks of damage in these areas come from site personnel carrying construction materials through narrow doorways, the movement of machinery such as wheel barrows and also from tool belts and equipment.
If the doors are fitted to the door frame then they will need protecting and the best product for this task is the Protec Door Sleeve which can be supplied in a Standard Door Sleeve 2070mm x 895mm (25 pack) or Flame Retardant Door Sleeve 2200mm x 1100mm (20 pack). This heavy gauge polythene is sealed on three sides and supplied on a roll from which they can be peeled off at the perforation (ideal for storage before and after of additional sleeves that may not be immediately required). The Door Sleeve slides easily over the majority of doors and the open side can be folded over at the hinge side and tape onto itself. This method of protection completely encloses the door in polythene in a very short time and protects against dust, dirt, paint and plaster.
From this form of basic protection with the door sleeve on the door additional protection may be incorporated through the use of Proplex Door Size sheets 0.85m x 2m which is a corrugated plastic sheet in a 2mm thickness. By taping the Proplex Door sheet directly onto the Polythene Door Sleeve with a high tack tape the usual risk of tape problems are removed as the tape is not in contact with the finished door. This also removes the annoyance that can be incurred of using Low Tack Tape with Proplex sheets on finished doors in that it may be more likely to come unstuck.
For the Door Frame the element of “Awareness” comes into play with the choice of protection materials. The Flame Retardant Red Door Jamb Tubes or the Non Flame Retardant Blue U-Profile Jambs are highly visible and can be clipped around the jambs and header of a door. This primarily provides a form of impact resistance through the closed cell foam of the jamb protectors and secondarily raises awareness that there is protection in place as they are clearly visible thus encouraging site personnel to take more care when passing through the protected doorways.
Other protection materials that may be incorporated into the protection of doors and doorways include the Edge protection products for use on the doors and frames (Rigid Edge Protector, Flexible Edge Protector and FR Edge Protector), Yellow & Black Hazard Tape and Bubble wrap (FR and ST) for door handles and fittings.
Another extensive product range to provide full protection to a previously vulnerable area of site.
