On first impression Data Cabling and the use of protection may seem a strange and unrelated combination but in recent years there has been an increase in the number of companies enquiring about and procuring temporary protection materials for just this application.
There are various aspects to data cabling and the increasing use of information technology in the work place and brought about a requirement for ever more sophisticated methods of hiding, tidying and protecting data cables around the work place.
A popular product requested by companies involved in Data Cabling is Proplex FR 2mm sheet 1.22m x 2.44m or the Proplex FR 2mm Roll 1.22m x 50m. The product is essentially used to line data trays, providing a suitable weight absorbent surface for the cables to lay on, rather than the cables being squashed onto the metal base of the cable tray. For instance one customer contacted us regarding the use of “Unistrut” wire basket trays for routing data and power and cables. They were finding that the weight of cables on top of each other was squashing the cables on the bottom of the pile, potentially splitting the outer insulation and making them unsafe over time. The use of Proplex in this application provides a cushion against the weight of the cables and is often installed as a permanent protection.
The FR Proplex 2mm is often chosen for this application because it is rigid yet abs orbent to weight and impact, it is Flame Retardant in the event of heat or fire and it can be supplied in a translucent or black grade providing a good aesthetic appearance for the more permanent application.
Other temporary protection products stocked by Protec that may be of use in this type of application are the Protec Cable Ties and also the Protec Skyhook product, both are designed to tidy cables out of the way of site traffic thus preventing trip hazards and damage to cables.
