On average 5-10% of building materials are wasted on construction sites during builds.

This is down to a number of reasons but some of the key issues are:

• Damage when subsequent work is carried out on site
• Damage to materials while in transit
• Incorrect or unsafe storage while waiting to be used/fitted

Depending on what material this is it could become rather costly. Imagine a small bathroom refurbishment on a residential home. The new bespoke bath has been fitted and then an accident occurs and it has been chipped or damaged, subsequently needing to be replaced which means a new lead time on a replacement causing delays in the original schedule and not to mention the cost, which on a small project could mean the difference in making a profit or not.

Alternatively there could be a large commercial build in a school or somewhere similar. Large amounts of equipment being carried throughout the building and being manoeuvred through doorways could mean maybe 15% of the door frames in the entire building need replacing after being dented or knocked. Maybe there is a large sheet of curtain walling that has been chipped resulting in the whole piece needing a replacement. It’s going to be the first thing they notice as they walk in and will see that you are professional and have an obvious duty of care to your client to save on costly damages and clean up costs. Our Trapmats are low profile, tacky and remove dirt and dust from foot traffic which prevents dry debris from being walked/wheeled into sensitive areas. Each mat has pressure sensitive tacky sheets which are easily replaced by peeling away when each one becomes ‘full’.

We are now moving into May and the April showers seem to have followed. Living in Britain brings its own unique relationship with our unpredictable weather and the effect it has on industries such as building and construction can be rather annoying. One day of glorious sun only to be followed by a day with torrential rain can cause interruptions to build schedules and even damage to things such as masonry and brickwork. A large amount of rain collecting on a roof and then pouring off onto the foundations or other areas can cause excessive amounts of damage and the best way to get around this is to install temporary downpipes onto the roof and guttering and then direct the water to a location on the ground away from vulnerable areas.

General Protection (Floors, Walls and Worktops) –

2.4m x 1.2m Proplex Sheets              

• Thickness:  2mm plastic sheeting

Use: For standard protection against impact damage. Easily cut, creased and bent. Great for protecting floors with minimal foot traffic   or applying vertically to walls. As it is easily cut and creased these sheets are perfect for altering the size to fit worktops or various other surfaces

• Thickness: 3mm plastic sheeting

Use: Higher degree of impact resistance, ideal for protecting floors with occasional heavy traffic

• Thickness: 4mm plastic sheeting 

Use: For protecting Heavy traffic or extremely high value flooring

Very Large Areas of Floor -

Rolls – 1.22m x 50m

• Thickness 2mm

 Use: Perfect for ease of application on larger areas of floor. Continuous roll means a lot less tape is needed than taping sheets together

Now moving home is stressful enough, the logistics can often be tedious and help is often needed meaning your soon-to-be ex-house will be subject to some heavy foot traffic with lots of people coming in and out. An accident like above is waiting to happen. This can equally apply to the new home your moving into and the last thing you want to do is damage any fittings or floors on the first day you’re moving in!

Carpets

To ensure carpets aren’t damaged while moving or even simply decorating your new home people often use things like dustsheets or old coverings to protect floor but they can cause some serious trip hazards particularly on stairs or when carrying some heavy furniture. Hard floors

We have a range of protection for hard floors and if you imagine a dropped item denting a lovely timber floor then these can be invaluable. Stairs

Handrails and balustrades are also some of the most often damaged points of the home when a house move is underway! Carrying furniture downstairs can be very tricky and one slip or drop can mean it will put a huge dent in your handrail or balustrade. Simple foam handrail protection can be applied and you don’t have to worry about your stair fixings and can concentrate getting that wardrobe around that corner stair landing!

Door Frames and Doors

As they are almost always at an exit point to a room and large furniture has to be very carefully maneuvered through them, doorways can often be the most susceptible fixings for damage while moving home. Whether it’s the frame and it needs to be protected with a door jamb or the door itself which you can cover with proplex plastic sheeting or even a plastic door sleeve (brilliant for re-painting door frames and avoiding paint getting on the door itself) these fixing are crucial to protect before your heavy furniture gets moved out of a room.

Walls

Then there are the walls themselves which whether painted or wall-papered are always at the mercy of being chipped or scratched. This can easily be solved by applying our proplex sheeting up against a wall and securing with low-tack tape or we have a range of screening materials such as polythene which can be draped over a wall for simple protection.

Exits/Entrances

Finally there are exits and entrances. When moving home, help is often needed to be drafted  in and with a group of people moving in and out of a house frequently dirt can be brought in very easily and not to mention if it starts raining! Overshoes for your team of helpers or trapmats placed at exits can be a great solution to this preventing any wet and dirty feet traipsing through the house.

Joining Materials or sheeting together?
