How to hold Tiles or Skirting Boards in place while drying with ZipWall props
Our ZipWall props are the perfect solution for temporary screening applications however the telescopic nature of the props makes them very versatile and great for a range of other applications.
One customer who we supply temporary protection material to uses ZipWall for a very different application when doing refurbishments in residential settings particularly when tiling or fixing new skirting boards. The problem he had was making sure the skirting boards or tiles were held in place while drying and discovered simply extending a ZipWall prop across the length of the room and butting each end against either side of the room’s walls and skirting board or tile the prop will hold them in position.
Here is a great photo taken demonstrating the method.
Our Zipwall props are available in 3m, 3.6m and 6m sizes so will extend across most residential rooms.

How to quickly create a temporary screen whether working on a site or in a client’s home with our ZipWall Video Guide
Working in the Construction, Refurbishment and DIY markets Protec international understand the need for temporary screening of building work. Whether it is a 50m linear screen on a commercial site, safeguarding a small work area in a sensitive environment such as a food factory or simply screening off a fireplace in a living room, a quick and efficient way of erecting a temporary screen can be an invaluable tool for any contractor.
In the past, solutions such as crudely constructed wooden frames with a polythene sheet nailed onto it Continue reading →
At the start of last month we mentioned we would be attending the Sandown Toolfair event and time travels fast as we are now getting ready to drive down to Surrey. If you’re local to Sandown and are a tradesman come visit Toolfair at Sandown Park. Protec will be exhibiting at stand C13 and showing off ZipDoor as a convenient and effective way of containing dust to a single room, particularly useful on those dusty/messy jobs.
Food Manufacturing Companies and their factories are often presented with tricky issues when maintenance work is required on various machinery or parts of the building and food is still present in the environment.
A quick easy and, most importantly, safe and effective form of temporary screening is needed to mask off any areas where work is being done to protect the rest of the working environment. Stringent regulations need to be met and because of this, companies such as Heinz, Ginsters, Kelloggs all benefit from Zipwall for temporary screening. An air tight seal can be created using ZipWall extendable poles and accessories to make sure no dust or dirt escapes the area being worked on. As well as this, floor protection is also regularly required when maintenance work needs to be done on the factory floors.
If you work in food sensitive environments and need dust control through temporary screening you can really rely on then give our enquiry teams a call on 0800 834 704 and ask for ZipWall or alternatively take a look at our ZipWall product page.
Last week Protec attended the Toolfair exhibition at Coventry Ricoh Arena.
We were showing off our new door-way dust seal, ZipDoor. With lots of tradesman varying from builders and electricians to joiners everyone was pleased to see a very quick and cost effective solution to limiting dust travelling around a house when carrying out any messy work. Usually this is a problem point that is resolved by using dust sheets and tapes however this is never as simple as it sounds with dust sheets often being heavy and falling down and not to mention getting very dirty with continual use. All of this is a clear indication of the benefits of ZipDoor but the overiding factor that brought people to purchase the product was its professional look when using it in a residential/domestic setting. Whereas a dust sheet can look unprofessional and messy people loved how ZipDoor looked when used and clearly saw how their clients would appreciate it being brought along to a job. Within an industry when so much business is based upon reputation and referrals ZipDoor is a perfect addition to any tradesmans arsenal of tools.

Here is a great new review from a customer of ours that recently tried ZipDoor!
‘Perfect Solution for a dust free zone – 5 stars – by Claire Rumble, 08 Aug 2012
Usage: We are having an extension but trying to live in our house throughout the build. I therefore wanted to be able to avoid the rooms we are living in becoming dusty. Particularly as my husband and I both suffer from Asthma.
Opinion: I am so impressed with this product. It was very easy to assemble and is exceeding all expectations I had of its capability in stopping dust getting into the rooms we wish to protect. It is also easy to get in and out of. Most people complain about dust getting everywhere in the house when having an extension – this is definately the answer to avoid that happening. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to others.’
We have previously mentioned a new product planning to launch called ZipDoor which is the perfect solution to sealing a doorway and its corresponding room from dust. We have now launched the product and it is available to purchase from our website! So if you’re wondering how to stop dust from leaving or entering a room, click here.
Protecting newly laid timber flooring can be problematic as it often needs to be allowed to release moisture without getting trapped but leaving it uncovered can mean ongoing work could damage your lovely flooring. Breathershield FR has been specially designed by Protec to provide a solution for newly installed timber where it is essential that the moisture is allowed to escape into the atmosphere while at the same time fulfilling LPS1207 Flame Retardant certification
Stairs are often the focal point for foot traffic on buildings with multiple levels and this can mean plenty of equipment, furniture and fittings being carried up and down throughout the build. A wooden handrail or balustrade on the stairs can be easily knocked and dented or scratched by this traffic so it it important to use foam Handrail/Balustrade Protectors on these items that can often be bespoke made and costly to replace
Doors, by their very nature, are often access points to buildings or areas of the house and, much like stairs, are exposed to tools and equipment being knocked against door frames. Foam Door Jambs can be used to safeguard your door frame fixtures and prevent costly replacements or repairs
Once your frames are protected that leaves the doors themselves which need to be covered from the accidental knock or dent, Door Sleeves slide over a door and provide this protection without the need for fixing with tape etc.
Do you work with wood a lot while on-site? Does the dust from various resizing and alteration of fittings get around various rooms and cause costly clean-up time? ZipWall and ZipDoor provide the ability to screen off specific areas or whole rooms from dust transfer caused by working with timber
