Skyhook Cable SupportIn the UK, it is estimated that more than 10,000 employees and workers suffer from major injuries, usually a result of slips and trips around the workplace. What’s more, a further 30,000 took over 3 days off work to recover from injuries. Add all of this up, and it is estimated that this costs the UK economy around £800 million in time off work, fines by authorities, and claims against companies.

To combat these injuries, the HSE in conjunction with Local Authority inspectors have been routinely carrying out inspections of workplaces to ensure potential hazards are dealt with. Especially at risk of inspection is the construction division, companies both large and small, who are continually subjected to inspections of standards on construction sites, such as keeping walkways clear and removing any trailing leads that could cause someone to trip over.

Skyhook Cable SupportTo specifically minimise the risk of tripping over trailing leads, we’re delighted to announce the benefits of our Skyhook Cable Support.

The Skyhook Cable Support can prevent damage to power leads caused by being stepped on or pulled, as well as reducing trip hazards for the workers on a construction site.

Made from a non-conductive material, the Skyhook Cable Support also prevents electrocution by damaged power cables, a cause of the most serious construction-based injuries.

Skyhook Cable SupportThe Skyhook is highly-visible, and can be hooked over floor joists or ceiling grids – even screwed into a sturdy wall – to hold cables above head height.

As a result, the Skyhook Cable Support has been warmly received by the UK Health and Safety Executive, and we look forward to seeing a reduction in the number of slips and trips in the next round of analysis of workplace accidents!

Data Cabling - Temporary ProtectionUse SkyHooks For Data Cabling.

In recent years there has been an increase in the number of companies procuring skyhooks and other temporary protection materials for data cabling. There are various aspects to data cabling and the increasing use of information technology in the work place and brought about a requirement for ever more sophisticated methods of hiding, tidying and protecting data cables around the work place.

A popular product requested by companies involved in Data Cabling is Proplex FR 2mm sheet 1.22m x 2.44m or the Proplex FR 2mm Roll 1.22m x 50m. The product is essentially used to line data trays, providing a suitable weight absorbent surface for the cables to lay on, rather than the cables being squashed onto the metal base of the cable tray. For instance one customer contacted us regarding the use of “Unistrut” wire basket trays for routing data and power and cables. They were finding that the weight of cables on top of each other was squashing the cables on the bottom of the pile, potentially splitting the outer insulation and making them unsafe over time. The use of Proplex in this application provides a cushion against the weight of the cables and is often installed as a permanent protection.

The FR Proplex 2mm is often chosen for this application because it is rigid yet abs orbent to weight and impact, it is Flame Retardant in the event of heat or fire and it can be supplied in a translucent or black grade providing a good aesthetic appearance for the more permanent application.

Other temporary protection products stocked by Protec that may be of use in this type of application are the Protec Cable Ties and also the Protec Skyhook product, both are designed to tidy cables out of the way of site traffic thus preventing trip hazards and damage to cables.

Skyhook Cable Support

One of the most common hazards on a building site is tripping, and one of the main culprits are cables not tucked out of the way. Sometimes it’s necessary to have those cables on a work site, so what can be done about them?

We’d like to introduce skyhook, an amazingly simple way to keep the cables out of the way to prevent tripping or accidental damage.

The versatile Skyhook can be used as a temporary cable support by hooking it over items such as floor joists or ceiling grids, or screwing the support into a strong ceiling surface, or even attaching it to a wall.

Trailing power leads are an accident waiting to happen. Why not secure your power leads away to prevent this happening in the first place?

This versatile Skyhook is a temporary cable support which keeps leads high off the ground to prevent tripping or electrocution. You can hook the Skyhook over high structures such as floor joists, ceiling grids, or by even screwing the hook into the ceiling or wall.

The Skyhook is manufactured from bright yellow non-conductive material to make they remain seen.
