In the UK, it is estimated that more than 10,000 employees and workers suffer from major injuries, usually a result of slips and trips around the workplace. What’s more, a further 30,000 took over 3 days off work to recover from injuries. Add all of this up, and it is estimated that this costs the UK economy around £800 million in time off work, fines by authorities, and claims against companies.
To combat these injuries, the HSE in conjunction with Local Authority inspectors have been routinely carrying out inspections of workplaces to ensure potential hazards are dealt with. Especially at risk of inspection is the construction division, companies both large and small, who are continually subjected to inspections of standards on construction sites, such as keeping walkways clear and removing any trailing leads that could cause someone to trip over.
