Protect building foundations from frost, snow and ice.
Previous Protec blogs have already covered winter weather and snow but only in general detail, in light of increasing snow risk and plunging temperatures it may be of value to consider some specific protection solutions against snow.
“Know your enemy” is perhaps a little strong when assessing the impact of snow on your construction site but is none the less a valid point. Snow, unlike rain, sleet or hail is an insidious type of weather that can sneak in over night and completely disrupt works on site through its depth and frequency, extra work is required to dig the site clear and man hours are consequently lost. Snow, aided by the wind, is also a nuisance in the way that it can be blown in through openings, melts through the subsequent thaw and then you potentially have the risk of water damage to finished floors. When installing new air conditioning units or maintaining existing ones there is often a need to screen the area. This is because they are often required in live office environments or computer rooms. It is important to screen expensive computer equipment from any dust and the same as for people in an office.
Zipwall Temporary Screening is ideal as you can easily screen an area in minutes and re-use the product. Also it creates a professional look for your company.
Create that dust free environment with Zipwall to minimise dust contamination and cleanup costs.
A model airplane company has contacted Protec as they are very interested in using Proplex for their model aircrafts.
These are no small planes some of them can be 20ft long. Proplex is appealing as it can be laser cut and is light weight and very strong – Perfect for the job! Used in conjunction with light weight timber it sounds like a great match.

Protec Door Sleeves and the Flame Retardant version, FR Door Sleeves, are large format polythene bags essentially which are sealed on three sides and can be slipped over the door and folded back on themselves to totally encapsulate the door. They are supplied on a roll and are peeled off one at a time when required thus allowing for easy storage of the remaining sleeves that are not used. The great advantage of using door sleeves is that they completely cover the door (whether the door is in transit, storage or hung) and protect from dirt, paint, mortar/plaster splashes and scratches throughout the time that they are in place.
Whilst the Protec Door Sleeves are a fantastic concept for door protection one query that customers often raise is impact resistance, a valid point when considering site traffic more often than not includes wheel barrows, tool belts and all manner of materials being carried through doorways. The Door Sleeves will protect against light scratching but in order to make the protection of the doors more effective we would suggest Proplex 2mm Door Size sheets (available in Standard and Flame Retardant) are stuck directly to the door sleeve on either side of the door. The 2mm thick Proplex provides impact resistance which will deflect and absorb any impact from strikes against the door consequently protecting the finished door underneath.
The main benefit of using the Proplex Door Sheet and Door Sleeve together is that the Proplex can be stuck directly to the door sleeve with a High Tack Cloth 75mm Tape which will hold it firmly in place. Proplex Door sheets can be used independently to protect doors but there is usually the issue of taping them to a finished door which can be problematical, even with low tack tapes to the extent that residue is left by tape or the protection falls off.
Protecting doors from damage can be a time consuming activity that often falls short of the total protection required to ensure that damage is prevented. Many different types of material have been suggested for use in protecting doors such as bubble wrap, corrugated card and cotton dust sheets which whilst effective to a point often obstruct work around the doors due to poor fitting of the protection. At Protec we have numerous protection materials designed specifically for use in door protection and by using them together a total door protection solution is provided. The next time you are protecting doors on site use Protec Door Sleeves, Proplex Door Size and High Tack Cloth Tape 75mm to ensure that your doors are protected throughout your project.
Protec are proud to offer a full range of protection solutions for all fit-outs and re-fits and one of the most popular calls from house holders is with regards to protecting during the installation of a new kitchen.
A variety of protection scenarios may exist depending on the size of the Kitchen and whether there are other works being carried out in the house at the same time but some of the most popular protection products for Kitchen protection are suggested below. Continue reading →
In recent years Protec have worked hard to develop inventive and practical protection solutions on site and in few instances is this more apparent than with the range of external protection products that are aided in their purpose of protection by being produced in Hi Visibility Yellow.
Awareness and Visibility are important aspects in creating a safe and accident free environment on site and with the progressive use of Hi Vis on sites both in PPE, vehicles and equipment it was only a matter of time before Protec developed Hi Vis products. Continue reading →
